E-Myth Revisited: Valuable Excerpts

I read a lot of books. Admittedly, I jump around, read what interests me, and more times than not, never get to the final pages.

However, there are three books that were so impactful to me professionally and personally that I actually recommend them to others. One is titled the E-Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber.

I recently saw a summary of the book broken down by several perspectives or headings. One really grabbed my attention and I thought I'd share because the single sentence summaries speak volumes.

The section was called 'The Five Big Ideas' and they were as follows:

1. “If you are unwilling to change, your business will never be capable of giving you what you want.”
2. That Fatal Assumption: if you understand the technical work of a business, you understand a business that does that technical work.
3. The Entrepreneurial Seizure occurs the moment you decide it would be a great idea to start your own business.
4. “Everybody who goes into business is actually three-people-in-one: The Entrepreneur, The Manager, and The Technician.”
5. We all have an Entrepreneur, Manager, and Technician inside us.

That first bullet, as it did the first time I read it, gut punched my comfort zone. It also brought up a number of mental videos of individuals who want more but just cannot accept the change needed to get more. It's alot like the 'insanity circle'. You know, if I just keep doing what I'm doing...with more passion, effort, drive, etc....things will change. Been there, got lost in it, still get frustrated when it keeps happening.

And whether you're an entrepreneur, division leader, project manager, or just an individual reaching for something more, it's an easy truth that's difficult to accept and act on.

But, when you do... oh my....when you do....the 'more' you experience will just blow you away.

So be willing to change (or be changed) and be amazed at the ‘more' that comes your way.
